FWF and Education

The Federation sees education as perhaps the most important ingredient in
protecting the future of Florida's natural resources and promotes
environmental and conservation education programs
across the state.

Pictured (left to right) are: Emma Willcox, Eric Thomas, Dr. John Hayes (Professor and Department Chairt), Daniel Gualtieri, Dr. Mel Sunquist (Professor and WEC Awards Committee Chair), Vanessa Oquendo, Dr. George Tanner (Professor), Cameron Kovach and Judit Ungvari-Martin. Not pictured are: Jason Martin, Kathryn Williams, Kim Annis, Evan Adams and Courtney Fletcher.

The Florida Wildlife Federation has established an endowed scholarship fund at the University of Florida Foundation. The FWF Scholarship Program was initiated by Tim O'Brien, the Federation's first Eagle Club member, who hopes to motivate other Federation members and WEC alums to donate to the scholarship endowment fund in order to increase the size of the awards given annually. The scholarships are awarded to students in the UF Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation each year in April.

The endowed scholarship fund is more than one-third of the way to the goal of $100,00.00 in donations. Once this goal is reached, the FWF Scholarship Fund will be eligible for matching funds from the state.

For more information regarding the FWF Scholarship Fund, please contact Diane Hines at dhines@fwfonline.org, or 850-656-7113. The Federation is truly grateful to all of the donors to the Fund. Training our future fish and wildlife managers and researchers is vital to the future of Florida's natural resources.

Please make your contribution to the Fund directly through the UF Foundation's website: https://www.uff.ufl.edu/OnlineGiving/FundDetail.asp?FundCode=013403. The fund number for the FWF Scholarship Fund is: 013403.

You may also make a donation to the FWF Scholarship Fund by sending your check payable to the University of Florida Foundation, noting that the donation is for the FWF Scholarship Fund, #013403. The address for mailing is:

Each year the Federation, in conjunction with the National Wildlife Federation, distributes around 500 Backyard Wildlife Habitat kits to individuals, teachers and students who have an interest in planting a backyard for wildlife.

The Federation is a strong supporter of environmental education and is a contributor to nature films and other projects on Florida topics.

We are also a strong supporter of boating and hunting education and an advocate of ethical behavior and sound conservation practices by all outdoor recreationists.
