Unrestricted Donation for General Conservation Activities

The Federation encourages the public's appreciation of Florida's environment through sustainable, resource-based outdoor recreation. We fight to find creative solutions for Everglades Restoration, we support the state's conservation land acquisition and restoration efforts, and we work with policy makers to protect wildlife habitat and ensure public access. Your generous donation will help the Federation continue to address the significant challenges facing Florida's natural resources throughout the state.

Southwest Florida Office

With the effective work of Nancy Payton, FWF's Southwest Florida Field Representative, the Federation has been involved in innovative growth management decisions in Collier and Lee counties for the past 13 years. FWF continues to successfully defend Collier's Rural Land Stewardship Plan from those who seek to develop and mine protected areas, and supports additional incentives to landowners who enhance wildlife habitat on their properties. Nancy continues to pursue wildlife crossings, creative solutions to habitat preservation, and stronger local protections for listed species. Nancy was recently honored for her ongoing work and dedication to Southwest Florida conservation issues when the Collier County Commissioners renamed a former Conservation Collier parcel "The Nancy Payton Preserve". Your donation will support Nancy's continued conservation efforts in Southwest Florida.

Northeast Florida Office

With significant grant funds from the Elizabeth Ordway Dunn and Surdna Foundations, the Federation opened a Northeast Florida Office in April 2004, located in St. Augustine. A full-time planning advocate, Sarah Owen, was hired to lead the office. With a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida, Sarah is using her knowledge and skills to monitor land use planning and environmental permitting issues in St. Johns, Flagler, Duval, Nassau, Baker and Clay Counties. Your donation will allow FWF to maintain a strong presence in Northeast Florida.

Legal Defense Fund

As a last resort, litigation is sometimes necessary for the Federation to achieve important conservation goals. The Federation has had many successes over the years including protection of Florida Key Deer habitat, the Lake Okeechobee backpumping case, Scripps/Mecca Farms, Wakulla Springs protection and more. Ongoing efforts include Everglades water quality issues, wetlands and panther habitat protection in SW Florida, and growth and development issues statewide. Please consider making a contribution in support of FWF's legal efforts to preserve Florida's fragile wild spaces.

Legislative Fund

Each year the Federation is actively involved with legislative matters affecting Florida's environment and fish and wildlife resources. The most significant accomplishment of the 2006 legislative session was an unprecedented level of funding for conservation land acquisition and Everglades protection. Moreover, we were also successful in enhancing the penalties imposed on those who violate our fish and wildlife laws. FWF also fought anti-conservation efforts such as the elimination of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). During the legislative session, a weekly update, Capital Watch, is published and posted on our website keeping you up to date with what's going on and how you can help. Your donation will be used to fund legislative advocacy, the production of Capital Watch, and the Florida Action Network.

Florida Springs Protection

Florida's once crystal clear springs are becoming increasingly polluted by encroaching development. Clean springs are essential to protect Florida's drinking water, wildlife and sea life. To promote advocacy efforts to protect Florida's fragile springs, the Florida Wildlife Federation developed a Florida Springs Grant and Awards Program to recognize exemplary springs protection efforts and to encourage greater protection of springs in the future. In 2006, 19 of these cash awards were given to groups or individuals making a difference. Your support will help us strengthen this program and honor the protectors of Florida's springs.

FWF Scholarship Fund at the University of Florida, Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation

The Florida Wildlife Federation has established an endowed scholarship fund at the University of Florida Foundation. The FWF Scholarship Program was initiated by Tim O'Brien, the Federation's first Eagle Club member, who hopes to motivate other Federation members and WEC alums to donate to the scholarship endowment fund in order to increase the size of the awards given annually. The scholarships are merit-based and focused on students planning to continue in a career in fish and wildlife conservation, research or other fields related to wildlife conservation after graduation. The scholarships are awarded to students in the UF Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation each year in April. Learn more about the scholarship.

Please make your contribution directly through the UF Foundation's website: https://www.uff.ufl.edu/OnlineGiving/FundDetail.asp?FundCode=013403. The fund number for the FWF Scholarship Fund is: 013403.
